A Electrocautery (or thermal cautery) uses electric current to heat a metal probe, which is then applied to tissue to burn, destroy, or seal it, often for controlling bleeding (hemostasis) or removing small lesions. Unlike electrosurgery, the electrical current in electrocautery does not pass through the patient, making it safe for patients with pacemakers.
